Why commission a painted portrait?
In a portrait, whether it be a wedding, anniversary or family portrait, I take images and add to it the information that my client provides about the subject. I learn about their individual qualities, their likes, their favorite saying, etc, and then translate it into create a unique, beautiful story. While I work from photographs, the portrait is not just a painted version of a photograph. The same person can look completely different in ten different photos taken on the very same day. That’s why I like having as many photos as possible to work from (5 good ones of each subject is great) so that I can get a clear understanding a person’s face, and sometimes even their personality traits. While thought goes into painting a portrait, at a certain point the creative process takes over and colors, shapes and text emerge onto the canvas completely organically. Commissioning a portrait means that you are familiar with my work and that it resonates with you. It also means that you are ready to make not only an investment but also a leap of faith in allowing me to be creative. In deciding to commission a portrait, you will have a wonderful and lasting piece of art that celebrates the unique and beautiful story that you want to tell. Baret Boisson Commissions |
